About Lui Ledger
Lui Ledger is a personal bookkeeping application for people who want real, accurate bookkeeping without handing their financial data to a cloud service. You customize the dashboards and widgets you come back to: their layout, details, and settings. It is built on double-entry bookkeeping, the same accounting method professionals use to keep assets, liabilities, equity, income, and spending in balance.
Why Lui Ledger exists
Most budgeting apps either oversimplify (a single list of money in and out) or require a subscription and an internet connection to work at all. Lui Ledger takes a different approach: proper double-entry accounting, running entirely on your own machine, with dashboards you customize. Drill into one expense category or account, zoom out for the bigger picture, and move across a month, a year, or a specific range
Principles
Offline by default
Day-to-day bookkeeping should not depend on someone else's server. Your ledger lives on your device. Lui Ledger works without an internet connection.
Encrypted, not just "private"
Privacy is not a login screen on a remote database. Data is encrypted at rest and protected by your password. Lock the app and the files themselves are unreadable.
The view is yours
How you look at your books is yours to decide. Lui Ledger does not lock you into one home screen we designed. You shape the dashboards and widgets you come back to.
Change scale, keep context
Books have two axes: the account tree and time. You should be able to change scale on both without starting over. Drill into one category or account, zoom out for the bigger picture, or move across a month, a year, or a range.
Accounting-first thinking
Lui Ledger is built on double-entry bookkeeping: every transaction must balance, so money cannot appear or disappear. Calculations follow the same account principles as hledger and ledger-cli, the rules professional bookkeepers use: accounts, balanced postings, commodities, and prices. Lui Ledger will not save an edit if a balance check or assertion fails.
Lui Ledger presents that through a modern interface rather than a command line.
