Summary​

Lui Ledger is built so your financial records stay on your computer. Here is how privacy works depending on how you use it.

Lui Ledger desktop app​

  • Your data are stored on your device. They are not sent to us.
  • We do not collect personal data from the app.
  • We do not collect telemetry, crash reports, or usage analytics from the app.
  • You do not need an account, and day-to-day use does not need an internet connection.
  • Data on your machine is encrypted and protected by your password. We cannot see that data, and we cannot reset or recover your password.
  • The app may open this website if you follow a help, about, or download link. That is a visit to the website, not the app sending your ledger.

This website​

  • This website does not receive or have your ledger data.
  • If you download Lui Ledger or report an issue, that happens through a third party service, which has its own privacy policy.
  • If you donate, the payment is handled by a third-party donation page, which has its own privacy policy.
  • The website may use standard server logs and basic visit measurement so we can tell that the site is used. They are not used inside the desktop app.

Your content is yours​

You keep ownership of the books you create in Lui Ledger. We do not claim any rights to them, and we do not host them.

This policy explains what Lui Ledger does and does not collect when you use the desktop app or visit luiledger.com.

Who we are​

In this policy, "Lui Ledger", "we", "us", and "our" mean the publisher of Lui Ledger, based in the Netherlands.

What is personal information​

Personal information is information that identifies you or can reasonably be used to identify you. Examples include an email address you send us, or an IP address recorded by a website.

Your ledger (accounts, transactions, balances, payees, and similar records) is stored only on your device. We do not receive it, so it is not personal information held by us.

The desktop app does not send us your data​

Lui Ledger is a local desktop application. It keeps your bookkeeping on your machine and works offline.

We do not receive or store:

  • your ledger or backup files
  • your password
  • an account profile (there is no Lui Ledger account)
  • telemetry, diagnostics, or in-app analytics

If you choose to open a page on this website from the app (for example help or about), your browser or the system browser visits that page. That visit is covered by the website section below. Your ledger is not attached to it.

What this website may collect​

This website is separate from the desktop app. It may process a small amount of technical or contact information:

  • Server logs. Hosting a website usually records technical requests. We use this only to run and secure the site.
  • Email. If you write to info@luiledger.com, we use your message to reply and to keep a record of the conversation as long as we need it for that purpose.
  • Downloads, issue reports and donations are provided through third-party services which processes activity under their own privacy policy.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use the desktop app to advertise to you.

Cookies​

The desktop app and website does not use and collect any cookies.

How long we keep information​

We do not hold a copy of your ledger, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side when you stop using the app. You can remove local data yourself with backup, restore, or reset in Settings.

Email we receive is kept only as long as needed to handle your request and any related legal duty.

Website logs and measurement data, if any, are kept only as long as needed to run, secure, or understand the site, then deleted or reduced.

When we may disclose information​

If we hold any personal information (for example an email you sent), we may disclose it only if we must, including to:

  • comply with the law or a valid request from a public authority
  • protect our rights or the safety of others
  • a service we use to run email or the website, only as needed for that service

Security​

The desktop app encrypts your books on your machine and unlocks them with your password. We never have that password, so we cannot decrypt your files for you. If you forget it, we cannot recover the existing data. Keep a backup you can open, and store the password somewhere safe.

No website or email system is perfectly secure. Do not send ledger files or passwords to us by email unless you accept that risk.

This website and the app may link to other sites (including GitHub, hledger, donation pages, and documentation). Their privacy practices are their own. Read their policies before you use them.
