Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Lui Ledger, the desktop application, and the website at luiledger.com (together, the "Services").
In these Terms, "Lui Ledger", "we", "us", and "our" mean the publisher of Lui Ledger, based in the Netherlands. "You" means the person using the Services.
Acceptance
By downloading, installing, or using Lui Ledger, or by using this website, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
We may update these Terms by posting a new version on this page and changing the "Last updated" date. Continued use after a change is posted means you accept the updated Terms.
Who may use Lui Ledger
You may use the Services if you have reached the age of majority where you live, and you can form a binding contract. You may not use the Services if that use is illegal where you live. You are responsible for following the laws that apply to you.
You may use Lui Ledger for your own bookkeeping and for a small business. If you use it, you do so at your own risk, under the disclaimers below.
License to use the software
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to download, install, and use Lui Ledger on computers you control.
Lui Ledger is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights in the software, the website, the name Lui Ledger, and the content we publish, except the rights we expressly grant you here. You may not present Lui Ledger as your own product, or use our name or marks to suggest that we endorse you.
Third-party software shipped with Lui Ledger (including hledger) is licensed under its own terms. See Open Source Licenses.
Your books are yours
You retain all rights in the content you create or import in Lui Ledger ("Your Content"), including your ledger, backups, dashboards, and settings.
We do not claim ownership of Your Content. Because the app is local, we do not host Your Content and we cannot access it.
You are responsible for Your Content: its accuracy, your right to use it, backups, and keeping your password safe. We cannot recover a forgotten password or decrypt your files for you.
Not professional advice
Lui Ledger helps you keep books on your computer. It is not financial, tax, accounting, investment, or legal advice. Reports, balances, and other output are for your information only. They may be incomplete or wrong.
You are responsible for how you use the app and for any decision you make from it, including for a small business. Use of Lui Ledger does not make us your accountant or adviser, and does not guarantee any result.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Services in a way that breaks the law
- attack, probe, or disrupt the website, downloads, or related systems
- send malware or attempt to interfere with other people's use of the Services
- misuse our contact channels (for example spam or impersonation)
We may stop providing the website or downloads, in whole or in part, at any time.
Fees and donations
Lui Ledger is free. There is no account and no subscription.
You may optionally donate through a third-party page linked from this website. Donations are voluntary, are processed by that provider, and do not buy a license, support, or any extra rights. Refunds, if any, are handled by that provider's rules.
Privacy
How we handle information is described in the Privacy Policy. The desktop app does not send us your ledger. The website is separate and may use logs or basic visit measurement.
Third-party services
The Services may link to or rely on other parties, for downloads and issues, a donation provider, hosting for this website, and websites we link to. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for them.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Services are provided "as is" and "as available", to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that Lui Ledger or this website will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors, or that they will meet your needs.
We disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
You may have rights under Dutch or other consumer law that these Terms cannot take away. If so, those rights still apply.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lui Ledger is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising from your use of the Services or from inability to use them.
Our total liability for all claims arising out of the Services is limited to the amount you paid us for Lui Ledger in the twelve months before the claim. If you paid nothing, that amount is zero, except where the law does not allow that limit.
You agree that you use Lui Ledger at your own risk, including the risk of losing access to encrypted data if you forget your password or lose your files.
General
If a part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a right, we do not waive it. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them as part of a transfer of the project.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Services. They replace any earlier terms about the same subject.
